Do You Pre Shampoo? (Pre-Poo)

-->
Pre-poo simply refers to using a form of protection on the hair before shampooing. I use oils like coconut oil, sheabutter, among others for at least 30 minutes by covering with a shopping bag and shower cap. The rationale behind this is to avoid the hair from being stripped clean of all oils during the shampoo process.
The questions are:
  1. Do you pre-poo?
  2. How do you do it?
  3.  How long do you do it?
  4. What do you use?
kindly share your thoughts!

  1. I do it depending on how much time I have or how lazy I'm feeling. Sometimes my pre-poo IS my shampoo if I'm really strapped for time.

I prepoo overnight. Coating my hair in my butter mix doesn't compromise my style for the next day, so when I get home I can wash it off. Simple and stress free. Studies have shown that in order to benefit fully from Evco's property against hygral fatigue, in has to be on for at least 14hrs. My tresses agree!

  5. I prepoo with either an oil like grapeseed oil, a moisturizing or protein conditioner depending on how my hair is feeling. I prepoo anywhere from 30 min to an hour. Some days I will just apply an oil to detangle my hair and immediately jump in the shower (not sure if this still counts as prepoo-ing but my hair is coated with an oil)...

  6. I use Coconut Oil because it has been scientifically proven to
    -strengthen hair
    -prevent damage
    - prevent moisture loss
amongst others, when used as a pre-poo.

    1. I've been thinking of sticking to coconut oil for pre-poo since I've learnt about hygral fatigue.

  7. I use a mixture of coconut oil, castor oil and amla oil to pre-poo. I try to keep it on overnight but if I cant I leave it in for an hour or two. Once tried pre-poo with a conditioner....it felt like such a waste so went back to my oil mix.

I use coconut oil and leave it on overnight. Last weekend I got lazy and applied the oil on Friday and washed it out on Sunday. My hair felt great after washing and deep conditioning!

    1. that's great! I'm switching to coconut oil as pre-poo as it can penetrate the strands.
