Wash Day for Week 1 February, 2020

Image
I'm going to be more detailed in this wash to help you understand how I wash my hair. This will be a series so stay tuned. To wash, I use any shampoo available. I have hotfro shampoo and groganics shampoo I alternate. I use one shampoo per week as a first step to wash my hair either home or at the salon.  Assuming you are using any of these, the Doo gro tingling shampoo will be step 1  Step. 2. After rinsing off the shampoo, I follow up with the hotfro conditioner or groganics conditioner and leave for 1 minute and rinse out.  Step 3. At this point, I apply the hotfro leave in conditioner (Red label) or if I have mega growth leave in conditioner, I use that. If I have Hawaiian Silky moisturizer, I use that or S curl No Drip moisturizer or the mega growth anti breakage strengthener. I like to add the amla oil at this point or the hotfro oil mix before the rollers are done. Step 4. I don't use any oil in the hair again after it is dry. I use a hair pomade on the scalp, here, it c

Is Hot Oil Treatment Better Than Prepoo?

Image
Every pre shampoo step contributes to moisture retention therefore prepoo and hot oil treatments, though different, both provide the hair with protection against the impact of shampoo as well as retention of moisture. The question a reader posed was whether hot oil treatments are better than prepoo. Another wanted to know if hot oil treatment is faster to do compared to prepoo. The answers to these questions depend on several factors. If you don't heat up your oil but sit under the hooded dryer for 5 minutes on medium to high heat, the oil gets absorbed faster. Coconut oil has become the go to prepoo and hot oil treatment to prevent hygral fatigue. The heat will allow faster absorption of the oil during the heating process. On the other hand, if the oil is preheated before application, the penetration is equally good. So, which one takes less time? I'll go for hot oil treatment since preheated oil works faster too. With prepoo, you may not have to time to sot under a

How To Comb Natural Hair After Braids

Image
Let's do away with the cornrows and braids preparation and installation  and focus on how you comb the hair after take down.  Many ladies have trial and error with products and techniques to find what works for them. The basic step is finger detangling first to remove knots and tangles.  Some continue to finger detangle with the comb under running water. Experiment and see which one reduced breakage for you.  If you don't wish to wash,  just finger detangling and the oil will get the job done. Warm oil such as coconut or olive oils make detangling quite stress free. Leave your hair in sections too after removing the knots and tangles.  Finger detangling first  Apply a lot of oils and f in Nigeria detangle again Use a product with slip and wash in sections. You can use a conditioner Don't shampoo hair that hasn't been detangled.  Keep the hair in sections and use a wide tooth comb to detangle. You can then still use your fingers or move to a medium tooth

4 Wash Day Tips For Relaxed Hair

Image
There are a variety of things you can do  to enhance your wash day experience. Prepoo treatment is not overrated. I know some bloggers don't see the need but do what works for you. When I ceased doing the Prepoo, I into get the same moisturized hair. Use heat to deep condition. Unfortunately, I know getting a steam cap is a problem but do try to get one for your hair. It makes a huge difference . Air drying in sections helps stretch the hair and leave you with smooth hair too. I don't worry about too much shrinkage during the air drying. Use detangling products especially shampoos and leave in conditioners to reduce knots and tangles when manipulating the hair.

Wash Day featuring We Naturals hot oil treatment

Image
I had to wash my hair but since I'd been getting questions about the We Naturals hot oil treatment, I decided to do a video of it. After the hot oil treatment, I washed with  Sheamoisture African black soap shampoo and deep conditioned with Cantu sheabutter deep treatment mask.  I used the Cantu sheabutter anti frizz foam leave in conditioner and set the hair on flex rods. That  result was really good as usual. This kind of styling makes it easy for me to wear my hair out during the  week. I got to wash the  hair when I can and apply oils to the strands regularly.  [Youtube=https://youtu.be/tUdqtvk5o-c]

Wash Day With Sheamoisture Superfruit

Image
When you are 5 weeks post relaxer and your hair turns out great after wash, you can definitely appreciate the products that made it possible and in my case,  it's the Sheamoisture Products. First,  I'd wanted to pick up the Sheamoisture Superfruit 10-in-1 renewal system but my girl picked up the conditioner instead of shampoo. I can't blame her because both have the same look. What turned out to  be a mistake, it's a blessing! When I took the Superfruit, I thought it was a shampoo till I read the package. However,  I couldn't do anything about it so I shampooed once with diluted Sheamoisture African black soap shampoo. This was the moment of truth; I've not tried any Sheamoisture conditioner before so I was quite worried about a wrong outcome. I took the plunge and applied the conditioner. Aside smiling,  I was just like '' oh'' and '' wow''. The conditioner worked wonders. It's very thick,  has slip and not strong scented. I

Cantu Sheabutter Deep Treatment Masque Wash Day

Image
I wonder why I hadn't tried a Cantu Sheabutter deep treatment masque wash ever since I got the product. For week two of the deep conditioning challenge, I may just stick to one wash because I don't want to loose this smoothness I'm enjoying as regards my hair all thanks to the Cantu Sheabutter masque. I was out of my mind when my stylist couldn't do my hair due to her faulty dryer so I had to seek for a new one. She's a bit far from me but after this experience with her, I may just make that trip all the time. To begin,  she cleansed with renpure cleansing conditioner. Whilst she was washing,  I think she was taking glances at the directions on the bottle and all the products I had brought. When it was time to deep condition, she applied the deep treatment masque to the edges first -  something madam know-it-all doesn't remember to do Lol.  She also read the directions and wanted to follow the time to use the Cantu sheabutter deep treatment masque but I obliged

Gelatine Hair Mask

Image
The gelatine hair mask treatment has been on my to do list since Nitty of growingmymane.blogspot.com brought me a pack. What is gelatine hair mask? This hair mask is made with gelatine. My readings about this product have shown that the gelatine has protein just like egg which makes it an effective protein treatment. The advantage of gelatine is that the protein is able to penetrate the hair better than egg protein. To prepare the treatment,  I simply mixed the gelatine with water and stirred. I applied it on the  dry hair and see how moisturized the hair looks. A few days ago,  my hair was as dry as a hay yet after just 2 deep conditioning sessions,  my moisture level increased and now see how the gelatine has settled in too. Mind you,  the hair you see looks nothing like when it's dry. The gelatine is so sticky like gel and when it dried on my face, it was like a facial peel. I went to bed with damp hair.

Deep Conditioning for Harmattan Update

Image
The first week of the deep conditioning for harmattan is over and I followed everything to a dot. Check out the first wash and the recent wash. What can I say? I'm glad I'm giving the hair the moisture it needs. I'm keeping an eye on moisture overload but at least most of my deep conditioners are balanced. The gelatine hair mask treatment was to provide the protein the hair needs. Gelatine is said to contain hydrolyzed protein which was the purpose for the mask. Overall, I look forward to more gelatine hair mask treatments.

The Coily Queen Regimen

Image
I came across the coily queen regimen when I was surfing for information on how to keep 4c natural hair moisturized for long periods. As part of my non conservative attitude towards my hair, I'm going to do a few hair regimens to help with moisture as I mentioned in my  6 months post big cho p Video. The basic requirements of the coily queen regimen is to shampoo twice a week, deep condition twice a week, apply leave in conditioner daily for 3 weeks, daily scalp oiling and massaging. You can find out more here . This is the regimen for September (we are about 15 people trying it) and at the end, I'll share my verdict. The aim is to increase moisture in the hair, reduce tangles and single strand knots. If you'd like to join this test drive, just follow the instructions or steps as listed by coily queen. The sheamoisture yucca and baobab shampoo will be used, kinky Curly knot leave in, body butter coil crown deep conditioner, grape seed oil, Jane Carter Solution Nourish and S

Wash Day With Sheamoisture Yucca and Baobab Shampoo

Image
Upon reflections and meditations, I've realized that perhaps my knotted ends have to do with my current twists. In addition to that, I often get tired of the gruelling  minutes spent detangling so I stop and use either the shampoo and running water to continue the detangling routine. These led me to rethink my regimen and where it will lead me. I hadn't shampooed in a while so I brought out sheamoisture yucca shampoo (thanks Diana for this gift). First of all, this shampoo smells like perfume - deliciously sweet! However, it doesn't have the same slip as the coconut and hibiscus shampoo. I topped up with the hello hydration conditioner and two hand full of coconut oil (I'm evaluating this oil in my regimen). I find my hair responding well to grapeseed oil. So, I really spent time detangling the ends which was such a daunting task. I'm happy I want to wear my own hair throughout September (more about that soon). Despite all the efforts to smoothen the ends, the

Wash Days; From Clay Treatment To Co Wash

Image
I didn't want to use a shampoo so I went in for rhassoul clay treatment again. I mixed Rhassoul Clay Honey Vinegar Jbco and applied it on my hair, covered it for some hours before rinsing. I followed up with the last bit of Aphogee 2 minutes reconstructor (I'm actually sad about that :'(:'() I topped up with the keracare humecto which is also running out smh. Fortunately for me, what is left can last about four washes. I twisted the hair to prevent it from knots and tangles when it dried. Co Wash Two days later , I used the Cantu Sheabutter curl cream to retwist the hair but that didn't turn out well at all so I Co washed with the We Naturals Hemp Oil conditioner. After that, my Auntie installed African Threading and my hair was very stretched upon take down. I love the results of threaded hair! That's my most trusted and guaranteed method of heat free stretching so you'll be reading more escapades with this technique. How was your wash Day?

Rhassoul Clay Treatment for Hair & Face

Image
I've been up to a lot of stuff during the month of July though due to phone and internet challenges, I couldn't share with you all these things but here's an update about the rhassoul clay treatment I did a couple of days ago. During one of the days I felt happy and in the mood to experiment, I did a mud wash using Sheabutter Cottage Rhassoul Clay. In the video, I take you through a step by step process from mixing the clay to the application. I will be doing more of these clay treatments as time goes on. [YouTube=https://youtu.be/muOa0Eirk7c]

10 Co-Washing Problems : (2) What Type Of Conditioner To Use?

Image
--> (Click  here for problem 1  ) On to another tedious and serious decision making in embarking on co-washing; whether to use a protein conditioner or moisturizing conditioner! :( My experience with conditioners have taught me to have a balance of the two. If you want to use protein conditioners, then, your wash day should have more moisture based products to prevent protein overload. If you choose to use only protein conditioners, then, you have to constantly have moisturizing products.

Weave Failure: Not My Fault

Well, this isn't new for those who interact with us on facebook. If you've also noticed, the current protective style widget is gone but not forever. I failed and as much as I want to blame myself, I won't do so; I'd rather blame the weather.  I hate this HOT weather!
