What Not To Do With The Ordinary Glycolic Toning Solution

The surge in the use of The Ordinary Glycolic solution can be both a blessing and a curse if you don't understand the don'ts that come with using it. Check Here For How I Use It 1] Do not use it daily. It's contains 7% glycolic acid as an active therefore it's not your hydrating toner. It's an exfoliating toner or chemical exfoliant. 2] Don't use it without proper sunscreen or sun protection in the morning. 3] Don't mix into any other product to apply. Use it on its own  4] Don't apply it in the morning. It's a night product. 5] Read what can be used after glycolic acid before adding other serums in the same routine. I prefer not to use anything else except  moisturizer.

Why I Don’t Exfoliate With Face Towels

When it comes to sensitive skin and skin care in general, the least irritating routine or techniques or products are essential. In the beginning days of skin care, it was easy to use towels as a form of washing aid to remove leftover make up. However, in recent times, there have been a surge in a wide of exfoliating products thereby providing better options that cause less irritation. With the influx of chemical exfoliating, there is less need for mechanical exfoliating or physical exfoliating with face towels. Your exfoliating serums and washes and toners get the job done!  I prefer chemical exfoliating or even using facial scrubs rather than towels. Rubbing your skin before applying certain serums can even lead to burning and tingling sensations so best to avoid touching your face with face towels or wash clothes or even faical brushes. PS: I still would use face towel to pat the face dry instead of regular body towel.

Hair Polisher versus hair serum

Every salon has at least one hair polisher for your hair!  What's the purpose and how is it different from hair serum? 1]Hair polisher is much thicker compared to hair serums. 2] Hair serums are lightweight hence can be applied on the scalp and in the hair. Hair polishers are too thick to be used on the scalp.  3] Hair polishers are best for dry and frizzy hair and can be applied after hair serums to prevent moisture loss. Do you use hair polishers?

5 'Kitchen' Oils For Your Hair Care

We know a lot of oils support hair growth and thickness but we've probably  overlooked these hair oils that can be found I  in our kitchens but it's time to incorporate them into your regimen. {1} Palm Kernel Oil: Also called Bata a oil. This oil nourishes your strands and can be used as a pre shampoo treatment too If the smell makes it difficult to use to seal in moisture after washing. {2}  Canola Oil: This is very common in supermarket and it can become one of your favourite prepoo treatment for dry and thirsty hair. {3} Palm Oil: This may seem unconventional but palm oil was the trending prepoo treatment years ago! You can give it a try out of curiosity. {4} Soybean Oil: This oil can be used on the scalp to promote hair growth aside your prepoo. You can use it in your deep conditioners to add more nourishing benefits. {5} Sunflower oil: This is lightweight and as a ceramide oil, it can help repair damaged hair.

Ayurveda Hair Care

Ayurveda herbs are a variety of herbs that can be used to promote hair growth and thickness. However, due to the wide variety, you'll have to research each herb before using them. Each herb can be used as a mask or for making oil mixtures. Whichever one you settle on, be consistent with use and pay attention to the effect. The most common herb is Leele aka henna. There are grades of henna and the body quality one is taunted to be the best for hair. Any other type such as black henna, red henna etc may be for the purposes of dyeing the hair and not strengthening it. I dabbled in a few herbs for a while but the best practice is to try them separately to find which one works for you before combining them. Creating a systemical way for the ayurvedic herbs will give your hair the maximum benefits. You can start with  herbal rinses and then move to glosses- that's the addition of conditioners to the herbs. You can choose to start with infusions to promote hair growth and repairing of...

Wash day: Detoxing The Scalp

The scalp is the most vital part of the head when it comes to hair growth. If you want to reach your maximum growth rate, take extra care of your scalp. I always talk about chelating and detoxing as a result of this. Exfoliating gets rid of any build up as well as promoting the overall health of the scalp.  1) I used my sugar face scrub because I wanted to use it up. 1]Applied the scrub using my fingers. I massaged it into the scalp using the pads of my fingers after which I left it on for another 5 minutes.   2] Used the Maui Bamboo  shampoo  and followed with Conditioner 3] Applied Ultra growth leave in and then my Ayurveda growth oil and Jamaican black castor oil. It's as simple as this!

What Is The Right Way To Prepoo?

Pre shampoo treatments have become an integral part of our hair care but the question is what is the right way to prepoo? What are the right products? Can you use deep conditioner to prepoo?  First, the most popular method is prepoo is using an oil that can penetrate the strands and this is usually coconut oil. I have tried deep conditioning before shampoo. In this case the deep conditioner becomes the treatment before the shampoo. After that, you rinse and apply rinse out conditioner and then moisturise and seal. This process worked best for me due to time constraints in the bathroom and as such, I tend to do it more often than regular prepoo treatment with oil. You can also opt for bond menders as prepoo treatments to repair and restore the strands.  Lastly, you can prepoo with your clay mask before conditioning your hair.  Which is your favourite routine?

Do You Have A Hair Bandwagon You Want To Try?

Each year, new techniques, products and hair styles trend. How do we capitalise on the trends to achieve long and healthy hair? Well, you need to understand the purpose of that technique or product before you jump on it. For example, when Olaplex came on the scene, a lot of people were not sure about how to use them. The best way was to check influencer reviews to understand the application process and the whole purpose of the products.  You should also consider your hair type and texture before jumping on a bandwagon. Have you checked reviews of people with your hair type or texture? Have people within your climate zone used the products and what was their results? This will protect you from causing damage to your hair.  Start with a small size of the products you want to try or If possible, get samples. This will help you make the decision to either go with large size or discard it. Lastly, be patient enough to know if the bandwagon worked for you or not. Give it enough time ...

5 Hair Goals For 2025

It's 2025 already which makes it 13 years since I started blogging here 💃💃💃 The first hair goal is thickness and healthy hair. Limit setbacks to make your progress faster and better. Jump straight to quality products If you wish to get healthier and thicker hair within an appreciable time frame. The third to consider is sticking to one to two protective styles to reduce damage and potential setbacks. Incorporate bond menders in your routine to strengthen your strands.  Healthy hair begins with healthy scalp therefore exfoliating your scalp should be a priority too. Your scalp massage brush will serve your well If you are consistent.

Skin Care For Harmattan

Harmattan dryness can cause your skin to be flaky and wrinkled but there are some solutions you can implement even before this happens. 1. Hyaluronic Acid : This potent ingredient can be found in washes, serums and even moisturisers. Incorporate one into your routine to boost the moisture in your skin. One of the nest ways is through the serum itself. There are many affordable brands out there so you don't need to splurge on it. 2.  Hdrating toner: Using them before your serums adds to the moisture and ensures that the skin stays hydrated for longer periods. Essence toners like the Cosrx Snail Mucin Essence Toner will be a good choice during this period of the year. 2. Face oil: Adding oils to your routine will lock in moisture too so find an affordable one to use. When the skin becomes too dry, it requires a lot of efforts to treat it therefore it's best to be proactive. 3. Oil based  Sunscreen provide extra glow during harmattan season. My favourite is the Nivea Spf 50 from ...
