My Postpartum Hair Loss Regimen

Postpartum hair loss can seem to be a devastating effect of post baby but we should also realize that the body has gone through 9 months of pregnancy and nothing will be normal for a while.  Despite all the positive changes our hair will go through during pregnancy, we know we may experience hair loss as a result of the hormones getting back to their normal state. I used to also dread that stage but now, I’m mentally too exhausted to pay attention to it. I’ve been using Ayurveda herbal mist daily to moisturize and sealing with oil mix. As to how much hair loss and when the hair loss will begin is not something I can tell. I’m still taking iron supplement to help restore what I lost and I also have pregnacare new mom vitamins that I can take for 3 months. That means I have 4 months covered. Pregnancy Hair Care Journey

At the beginning of the year, right on 1st January, we found out we were expecting a baby! I was over excited because it's taken us years to receive this blessing.  I didn't have issues with my hair for the first 3 months. From January, I made it a point to wash every week and deep condition twice a month. My hair was thriving inspite of the extreme nausea and fatigue I was going through. Those months were hard on my body. Compared to my first pregnancy which was a walk in the park, this one reminded me of 'Old age.' I got some braids and cornrows during the period too without issues.  However, by the fourth month, my scalp felt hot most of the time. I did co wash but it wasn't helping. Pre Postpartum Skin Care

It may seem strange to talk about pre Postpartum hair or skin care but it is really beneficial to plan your routine ahead of time. For the pre Postpartum, it's all about how you want to restore your glowing skin and get your skin back to normalcy. It may take weeks and months but planning will speed up the results. One of the first things I began doing was being consistent with cleansing, toner and moisturiser when I hit week 35 of pregnancy. I purchased the Nip and Fab mandelic gel wash to gently exfoliate the skin. I used that to wash the face and alternated with Simple Facial Wash.  After that, I used Garnier facial mist or the Revolution hyaluronic essence to create enough moisture in the skin. I followed with a creamy moisturiser and the face oil from Jo Naturals as last step or switch it with The Ordinary hemi squalene oil. This routine took a maximum of 5 minutes in the bathroom and 5 minutes out, totally 10 minutes. I did it once a day regardless of the number of showers I
