Wash Day With Aphogee

Image
Washing gives your hair the moisture it needs and for me, moving from once a week to twice a week washing requires new strategies. One method I'm trying is hairlicous way of washing. I've tried it before but time constraints made it difficult to continue.  1) Washed with Head and Shoulders anti dandruff shampoo to cleanse my scalp thoroughly.  2) Followed with light protein conditioner. I used aphoghee 2 minutes reconstructor and left it for 5 minutes. The reason  the 2 minutes reconstructor will be amazing is because it's not time consuming. I can do all the washing during my bath time. To be able to deep condition weekly will be beneficial for the bleached parts too.  2) I used the As I Am so Much moisture and then sealed with Olaplex oil.  I'm about 3 weeks post relaxer and I'm aiming at relaxing at the end of January.

Bun Mistakes That Cause Breakage

Image
I love buns as they are the most easiest and least expensive protective style you can wear. There are a couple of tips and tricks to use in order to derive maximum benefit from buns. 1] Rotate the position of your buns at least every 3 days. 2] Use thicker hair bands to allow better gripe when taking down. 3]You don't have to sleep in the bun; you can take it down nightly. 4] You don't have to comb daily to put your hair into a bun. 5] Be sure not to make it tight in your attempt to achieve a smooth look. That can lead to hair loss around the hair line.

This One Thing Could Damage Your Hair

Image
The sulphate or no sulphate debacle has been going on for a long time but recently,  there has been a middle way with respect to these ingredients.  In addition, a lot of the advocates of the sulphate free movement have actually gone back to including sulphate based shampoos or cleansers in their routine. Why?  It all comes down to removing build up in the hair! Even when you use sulphate based shampoo, you tend to have build up from styling gels, moisturizers and oils.  The sulphate free shampoos are unable to cleanse this build up and leaves your hair dry as a result. The only way to treat this is to use a chelating or clarifying shampoo! You don't need to use  sulphate based shampoos all the time. Once a month should suffice. An alternative will be bentonite clay to ensure a clean and healthy hair! You can also use salicylic acid based shampoos or glycolic acid cleansers too.  The key is to ensure that the hair doesn't suffer from build up.

Is Your Hair Dry? Shampoo To Moisturizer Tips

Image
The first point of moisture is actually your shampoo. If your hair feels stripped and dry right after washing out your hair, it may be time to change it. Lately though, most shampoos are quite moisturizing and then to give a conditioner kind of feel. Next is obviously your conditioner.  It's usually the deep conditioner we worry about as regards moisture yet your conditioner can equally provide the moisture or even needed protein. The quality of your shampoo and conditioner is therefore critical to a healthy hair. Another reason your hair might be considerably dry is due to product build up. Chelating and clarifying as often as possible will eliminate that problem. Additionally, limit using blow dryers since the air from them are concentrated at just one part instead of diffused like hooded dryer.

Blow Drying Natural Hair Without Damage

Keeping your natural hair stretched is key to preventing knots and tangles, especially, single strand knots. Aside using a heat protection serum or spray, you can use these tips to prevent potential damage from blow drying your hair. 1. Use cool setting if possible. 2. Detangle properly amd keep the hair in small sections as you blow dry. Blow drying in small sections makes it easier.  3. Allow the hair to air dry about 50% to reduce the water content before you blow dry. 4. Apply your leave in conditioner and then follow it with heat serum.  5. Be sure to deep condition your hair prior to blow drying.

Why Your Relaxer Seems Not To Be Working

Image
Relaxers are chemicals that help straighten the hair permanently and can therefore make or break your hair journey. There is the tendency to notice that changes in how your hair responds to your regular relaxer. One cause of your relaxer not working might be changes in the amount of new growth you have. The longer your stretch, the more growth you will have and that will need more relaxer. If you use the same quantity, you may not get the results. Therefore, if you go beyond your usual stretch time, make room for additional relaxer. Also, changes in your hair during certain seasons or even changes in your hormones such as during your cycle and pregnancy can prevent the relaxer from working. Thirdly, changes in diet and taking certain medications can cause changes in your texture. This might prevent your relaxer from working the way you want.

The Cantu styling gel has been a time saver and you’ll find out why.   First, My postpartum shedding has reduced drastically and I can’t wait to share more wash days posts. For this week, I was under the weather so I really needed something quick and easy!  1]I washed with macadamia shampoo and conditioner three times to ensure all the previous gel had been washed out.  2] I applied my Ayurveda oil on the wet hair and called it a day. Two days after, I wet the hair again and applied the cantu styling gel. It turned out so beautiful! I didn’t need to go to the salon to get this style done. Well, at least it wasn’t for any fancy visit so this was okay.  How’s your doing? I’m currently taking a couple of multivitamins to recover from a terrible headache and cold.
